Verthaus is a New Jersey based Builder actualizing energy efficiency and health in the homes they build and renovate. Thoughtful and purposeful design make comfortable and healthy homes that ultimately cost less to operate and provide a better quality of life. Verthaus has built New Jersey's first Luxury LEED spec home that is now for sale in Far Hills, NJ. This country style home integrates modern sustainable details and is located on four acres. Verthaus choose many local vendors and fabricators to help construct and create the home. Among those, they chose JM Lifestyles concrete surfaces for the kitchen, and bathrooms. Choosing concrete for its local, green, sustainable components it is also completely design specific and adds to the overall aesthetic beauty of this home making it functional and beautiful.
This home has a target HERS score of around 40 so the cost to operate this home is about HALF of the cost of a code home built at this same size (4,600+sq ft). This home is also built 15% smaller than most new spec homes in this area, on purpose! The purpose was to use the funds that would usually go into making the home bigger and put that money to building a better building envelope and being able to invest in local like minded company's products. This home has 5 bedrooms, 4 baths, 3 garage spaces, wine cellar and bonus/media room. It has a preliminary LEED rating of 67.5 points. Listing website

Tuesday, February 28th , Dr. Mohamed Mahgoub and his CIM 305 class visited J&M Lifestyles LLC in Randolph, NJ. J&M Lifestyles is the second largest decorative concrete company in the U.S. We would like to thank Jeff Kudrick, Director of Product Development, for coordinating the visit and giving us a tour of the facility and showing us current projects in progress. This was a great opportunity to expose the students to decorative concrete and how appealing and functional it can be when used in many applications.
